Wales Evangelical School of Theology

Wales Evangelical School of Theology (WEST) is the new name of the Evangelical Theological College of Wales which was founded in 1985. It has a reputation for sound theological training for Christian ministry. It was the first Reformed college in the UK to offer validated, recognised academic degrees. Today, numerous former students of many nationalities are engaged in front line gospel work around the world. We see it as absolutely essential that the training of future church leaders should combine academic, spiritual and practical elements.

WEST mission statement

To promote biblical thinking, personal godliness and God-honouring church-related ministries worldwide.

Courses Information

Degree programmes are accredited by the University of Wales, Lampeter.

The Main Course provides the classic 4 year pathway into pastoral ministry: BA Honours degree in Theology followed by MTh [Scripture and Theology for Practice].  (Also: 1 year Cert HE, 2 year Dip HE and flexible WEST accredited Diploma).  All undergraduate courses also available by distance learning.

The Binary Course provides a new and clear alternative to a conventional seminary education.  It serves the needs of those with good degrees in non-theological subjects looking for a responsible fast-track into pastor-teaching or church-planting ministries: 2 years, 2 bases (campus and contracted church) and 2 degrees ( LTh and MA Theology [Contemporary Church Leadership]).

The PMD Course: The Postgraduate Ministry Development Course is primarily designed for those in pastoral ministry who wish to extend and enhance their vocational knowledge and skills over a number of years. It progresses through the MA (Pastoral Studies) and MMin to the ultimate award of Doctor of Ministry (DMin). The delivery method is block teaching.

Also:

  • MPhil / PhD: Thesis only research
  • Correspondence Course is available at very modest cost to all who want to learn more about the Bible and the Christian faith.
  • Sabbaticals: We welcome applications from pastors, missionaries and other Christian workers who desire periods of study, rest or reflection

Testimonial

"It is at this point in my life that I believe the Lord has called me to further prepare myself for His work. I believe that there is no better to school to equip me for shepherding, protecting, serving, and teaching Christ's sheep than WEST"
